The Faculty of Medicine discussed the master's thesis entitled: (Sequencing of SARS-COV-2 and Assessment the Level of Pro-Inflammatory Cytokine During COVID-19 Infection in Diyala Governorate).

The study presented by student (Aliya Hashim Mohammed) and supervised by Professor Arig Attiya Hussain aimed at determining the incidence and genetic profiling rate of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) infection - Coronavirus - 2 among patients with respiratory symptoms in Diyala province.

The blood samples were collected, serum samples were stored at -20 ° C for subsequent analysis of IL-6 and IL-17, and nasal pulmonary scans were collected and placed in a tube containing a medium vector of the virus and then stored at -20 ° C until the time of extraction of the genetic material of the virus and genetic analysis.

The study showed that the incidence of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) - the corona-2 virus - was 25%, and the mortality rate was 4%. The most frequent infections were observed in males with an age range between 15-35 which reached 64% compared to females.
